Library

With my new commute, I'm reading a lot. I could be knitting, but with the Library so conveniently located, I just take out books. They are nice at the library. I just have to call them to renew. The collection is not extensive as the NYPL with web reserve and renewel - but I'm usually happy to read almost anything if it's well written.

I just finished and returned two books - Julia Child by Shapiro and Every Other Thursday. I like Julia Child - it read like a New Yorker article. Short sweet and to the point. Every Other Thursday was painful - a bunch of really smart, whiny women who were always worried about one thing or another. Hey you are scientists. If you don't like academia get a job or start a biotech in the real world. In the real world they care about money and getting money and making money. Not very pretty - but very focused and goal oriented.

Now I'm ready "Oops" and "I Wish I Was There" both about American history (my major in college) and "Dip" - a short self help book about when to get in and when to get out. I also took out a My Life (Pres. Bill Clinton) and a biography of Helen Hayes - she lived in Nyack and I was told by the weekend WWII veteran was against the building of the Tappen Zee bridge.
