Organizational Nightmare

I'm working on two projects that need a lot of organization.
1. Work radio trafficking
2. Making a Dance & Movement class for 3-5 yo happen.

Cutie face has a new friend. She cried when she had to go home.

I'm almost finished with Helen Hayes memoirs. Living in Nyack, I thought I should get to know her. Now that I know her, I really don't like her. She might be great at her craft, but she's so one dimensional - and so like so matter of fact "I'm so famous, life is hard" yadda yadda stuff. She falls into the catagory of annoying.

My BlackBerry

I hate to admit it, but I really like it. With all the hoopla with the iphone, we broke down and got the Berry. I'm very very happy with the Berry. The keyboard is useable, it's almost intuitive, basically I get it.

I've been using an Apple at the office for several years. Actually, I still think the PC is superior for how I work. i'm not big on the icon thing - give me words. I work with 6 documents opened at once. I want to be able to find them without rolling over. Give me titles not picture.

I get to leave the office a little early. I keep in touch with emails. i can deal with any emergency. Love it. this was written on the Blackberry.

Spreading Yourself Too Thin

If you were a great doctor and part of your responsibility included:
scheduling patients
answering phones
billing
accounting
nurse.
How much time would you have to be a great doctor?

It's really the same thing for stay at home parents. Your reponsbilities include:
teacher
babysitter
chef
shopper
housekeeping
social secretary
financial manager
driver
publicist (getting your child into the popular school)

Need I say more...

Something To Do

Camp is over soon and I need activities for cutie face to do everyday. So far I found, swim lessons at the Y (they are checking to see if there's room), dance or drop-in art classes at the local play place. We can go to the many swimming pools, playgrounds, and of course there's always the mall. I'm trying to get the names of the other students in her camp so we can schedule "come over and see me" time.

I'm becoming my child's secretary Yikes.

Nice People On My Way to Work

On the bus this morning I needed to make my yarn hank a ball. I was struggling to do it along and this woman helped me. We got the train station at 9.29. We had 2 minutes to make the 9:31 train. I ran and made it. The nice woman and her friends took the 9:51 express.

On the train I spent the morning talking to this lovely woman named Leslie. I didn't get any knitting done.

Does anyone remember a TV show that never made it called "United States" The state of being united. I loved it and was unhappy when it left the air. I can't find it on the internet.

Helen Hayes My Life In 3 Acts

I finished Opps and Wish I was There and The Dip. Now I'm on to a Helen Hayes Biography. She opens up her story with the places she lived after the theater - New York, Nyack and Mexico. - Hey, I'm in Nyack.
She also mentions on the first page that she doesn't seem to have a guiding principle or theme - but we will soon find out.

Sadly, I have a guiding principle. Do the least amount to get the biggest bang. It's amazing that I'm where I'm at in my life with that sort of thinking. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Library

With my new commute, I'm reading a lot. I could be knitting, but with the Library so conveniently located, I just take out books. They are nice at the library. I just have to call them to renew. The collection is not extensive as the NYPL with web reserve and renewel - but I'm usually happy to read almost anything if it's well written.

I just finished and returned two books - Julia Child by Shapiro and Every Other Thursday. I like Julia Child - it read like a New Yorker article. Short sweet and to the point. Every Other Thursday was painful - a bunch of really smart, whiny women who were always worried about one thing or another. Hey you are scientists. If you don't like academia get a job or start a biotech in the real world. In the real world they care about money and getting money and making money. Not very pretty - but very focused and goal oriented.

Now I'm ready "Oops" and "I Wish I Was There" both about American history (my major in college) and "Dip" - a short self help book about when to get in and when to get out. I also took out a My Life (Pres. Bill Clinton) and a biography of Helen Hayes - she lived in Nyack and I was told by the weekend WWII veteran was against the building of the Tappen Zee bridge.

Fat People

Yes, cutie face now notices fat people. Why are they fat? I tell her they eat too much sugar and foods that are not healthy. She's even noticing fat families. And there are a lot of fat people at the pool or mall. I'm a little concerned. I've noticed that since we moved, my fat is moving to new places.
Do the suburbs and cars inherently make you fat? Yes for me. But hubby is actually losing weight - must be the mowing the lawn thing.

WWII Veteran

This morning we went to the Piermont Market hoping to find Ingrediance for Paulo's gazpacho. They didn’t have all the items. We then walked towards the pier and stopped at the Gazebo. At first there were a lot of bicycle riders. When they left a lovely couple sat down and we began to talk. He was a WWII veteran stationed in the Pacific. His job in Tokyo was to try and keep the GIs from tormenting the Japanese people especially the women. This is the ugliness of the aftermath of war – even the justified ones.

My Little Logic Girl

Here's my first effort to codify the brilliance of my 2-3/4 yo.
We are in the mall. She sees the doll cart. She asks if she can touch the dolls. Mommy says " Your hands are dirty so it's not a good idea to touch them". She says can I touch them with this (a small box). I said "I don't think so because you will accidentally push them down." She says "I'll be careful".
Ok, but be very careful. She lightly touches them with the small box and they don't fall down. "See I told you I'm careful".
How cute is she.
Got to get one of those dolls for her birthday. Which one?

Metro North from White Plains is fast - but nothing like the Hudson Line.

New to Nyack

What kind of town would have a group that meets once a month specifically for new people. Welcome to Nyack. We went to the July 4th meet. It was quite nice. I really like the people here. I found home.

Beverly Sills Died - In my drafts folder

I saw her twice at events. But never singing in person. The last time I saw her was about a year and half ago. I didn't think she looked good. We will miss her.

The Mall

Yes, I've been hanging out at the mall. There' a carousel, ferris wheel, Target, Home Depo and the big sale @ The Children's place. I didn't like The Children's Place in the city. But it's not bad in the burbsville.

We've even eaten there a few times. Chevy's - the guacomole was actually good and I'm so impressed with Stir Crazy that I'll be checking it out as an investment idea when I get to the office. Cutie Face loved the food. Service was good. And overall a great Chinese food experience. Backin the 80's when I started in advertising I work on a new General Mills account to do a chain of chinese fast food called Lee Ann Chin. It was doomed when she didn't want to offer no msg option. I don't know if Stir Fry uses or not - but I will find out.

I'm writing this on my new blackberry. Couldn't do the hyped iphone. So we got the blackberry.i

Can't believe I'm doing the mall! BTW there are some really ugly people at the mall - they aren't the Hudson Line travellers I like so much.
I've been taken the White Plains line for the past week. Not as nice experience as the coveted Hudson Line.
